Medical Acupuncture

Medical acupuncture (dry needling) is a safe and effective way of addressing tension, muscle, bone and joint pains, as well as to relieve general stress. It is based on the current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology and forms part of evidence based medicine. We often use medical acupuncture in conjunction with other osteopathic techniques for treatment of conditions such as lower back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, knee pain, muscle spasms, muscle tension, headaches and stress. Medical acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the muscles or tendons to enhance function and reduce pain. Most patients are surprised at how comfortable acupuncture is, this is due to the very fine needles used and the masterful application. Acupuncture stimulates the nerves in skin and muscle and also stimulates blood flow and reduces sensitivity to pain. In this way acupuncture can provide significant symptom relief at the first treatment.
